Suspense by MichalKownacki Publication in Digital Camera Poland by MichalKownacki

I recieved an e-mail some time ago, that they like the image and would like to publish it, so I sent the photo and soon forgot about the whole issue. You can't imagine how happy I was, when I found by accident that it's going to be a photo of the month!

It's been over a year since my last journal entry so I thought that a little update would be nice.

First and most important thing is that I upgraded my gear, bought Olympus E-620 as a replacement for my good old E-500 and at last got myself true ultrawide angle lens - Zuiko Digital 9-18mm/f4-5.6. Now I only have to spend about $200 for new ND filters and I'll be set. Well, FourThirds is definitely not a Full Frame and E-620 is far from e.g. Canon 5D in image quality but still I noticed some improvement and E-620 has some very nice features (present only in some very high-end cameras) like in-body image stabilization or articulating screen making photographing really really fun. For example live view is good enough to enable me to adjust angle and focus even with NDx400 filter on - the fact that left me quite shocked :O

Also I want to master using of ND Grads. I tried it recently and was amazed how good picture straight from the camera can look. And it's really a time saver, no additional exposures and no blending in post processing.

Another thing is that I fell in love with black and white photography. Just like 1,5 year ago I found my home in long exposure, now I discovered that it's often hard for me to work with colors. The photographers that I admire the most also work mostly with black and white and that gives ma a lot of inspiration, so expect more of that kind of pictures from me. I just love how b/w directs attention of the viewer towards shapes and forms and the unique mood that it creates.

The last thing is that you can find me on flickr now. Add me if you're interested - there will be photos from me that I don't post anywhere else (different versions of older shots, some pictures that I don't consider dA-worthy but still would like to show them to the world etc.). So here's the link - www.flickr.com/photos/mkownack…

I'm very happy and proud to announce, that yesterday I received my first Daily Deviation ever. Many thanks to Spamkiller for suggesting it!

It really made my day, especially that I was feeling kind of down on weekend and had the worst Sunday since a really long time.

Thank you guys for all the comments, many of them were really encouraging and god... not many things make me smile more, than over a thousand of :+fav:s waiting for me in my message box when I get home from work :D

At first I'd like to thank you for all your :+fav:'s and comments.
I am no longer able to thank you for every single fave but I'm really, really grateful and glad that you like my work that much! :)

Feature time!

Dorset and Cornwall - South England coast.
I've only seen this places on photographs but fell in love instantly. It's not really that hard anyway, when they're photographed with such skill. I'd love to be able to visit them with my camera some day

<TL;DR>I'm back!</TL;DR>

:bulletblue: Well, seems like my leaving of dA have gone similar to the one described in some funny "guide to leaving deviantart" I read recently (and I really changed my account pass to a string of numbers and hid it,  but unfortunately, I still have pretty decent memory and thus it all came to nothing XD), and through last few days the urge to login became irresistible.

:bulletblue: Side effects of my little absence here were quite unexpected. The month after my leaving I started taking photos again. Looking at the dates on folders on my disk I realized, that I took more photos in December alone than in the last two years. Last time I had so much fun photographing was at the very beginning of my journey with photography and dA.

:bulletblue: I've also upgraded my equipment a little, due to two accidents. The first one was a real fail-day. I went  to the beach in Sopot, eager to start photographing, but my enthusiasm was quickly and considerably  reduced by the fact that I left my battery in the charger at home. So I went back. Journey takes ~1h  and it was already about 2 PM so there was no point of returning. Then I thought about long exposure  shots of cars passing down the expressway, only a few bus stops from my house. It was already getting dark and it's the best time for a pictures like this. After a few quick shots I wanted to change the angle so I started adjusting the tripod but apparently applied too much force (and the rotation  lock was on btw. XD) and there I was, frozen, with the broken tripod and with only a few pictures in my camera ( files.myopera.com/kovnas/files… ). I ordered a new, better tripod.
Then, the next time I went to the sea (with new tripod, of course I double-checked the batteries  before I left XD) a gust of wind caused my camera to take a dive in the sands of Baltic Sea. Yeah, sands, not waters fortunately (it was really a close one) but still, every time I wanted to zoom in/out  with my lens I could feel sand inside the mechanism. I ordered a new, better lens.

What won't kill you makes you stronger. And your wallet thinner.

:bulletblue: As for the pics - instead of spamming you with all of them in one or two days I'd rather submit them  gradually and with the chronological order. I believe I made some progress and hope you'll enjoy seeing my new photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

PS. About my goals from previous entry: one already accomplished :o
